Last month we published several updates to some of our older project articles. When this site was launched in 2013, we wrote about large and small mining projects, mostly chosen from random news releases or whatever was interesting at the time. Going back to look at these projects has been an interesting exercise. While a lot can happen in a decade, a lot of nothing can also happen. Here are another set of updates in no particular order. We’ll probably keep doing this as it gives us a chance to update older content, but we’ll also have brand new content for you once the field season starts to wrap up.
Two articles particularly worthy of a re-read are pieces on Mount Polley and Eagle Gold. Both of these mines experienced significant spills; 10 years ago in the case of Mount Polley and two months ago in the case of Eagle. Repairing environmental damage is hard, repairing reputational damage is even harder.
